Duran Duran “Paper Gods”

We weren’t all that fired-up at the prospect of another DD album, but boy, have the lads from Birmingham pulled one out of the bag. Paper Gods is a mighty synth heavy workout – with (good) collaborations aplenty. Huge choruses abound and there is a general sense of “up” here. It all feels very Duran Duran – which is a very good thing. Simon Le Bon’s vocals sounds better than they ever have and even though the second half of the album cannot match the brilliant opening salvo, this is a mighty return. Note: the three extra deluxe tracks are also worth a listen. 8/10
