La Roux “Trouble In Paradise”

And it finally arrives. Five years on from her debut, Trouble in Paradise finally drops complete with classic-looking sleeve. Sporting more groove and disco hooks, Elly’s vocals are also a little softer and richer. It makes for an intoxicating mix, feeling instantly familiar and satisfying. Whilst “Let me down gently” is one of the greatest songs ever, the album ends with the slightly muted “The Feeling”. However, this doesn’t dampen an album which triumphs in general and is ultimately damn enjoyable. 8/10 (overruled – it’s a 9/10 -Ed)
