Kelis “Food”

Fans of some of her past leftfield R’n’B and EDM work may need time to adjust (see the Pitchfork review for a blinkered take), but the Dave Sitek produced “Food” is a horn-honking, brassy selection of rare cuts (is that a food pun? -Ed). Kelis plays it straight – that voice and a sumptuous backing is enough. Essential albums transcend genre, and this is no exception. A future soul classic. 9/10
